Have you caught the news? Relay For Life has gone back to the future for its 21st outing in Kingaroy next month.<\/p>\n

It will be OVERNIGHT for the first time in about six years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

All the fun and games of the old overnight events will be back at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy on October 10-11.<\/p>\n

The weekend will get under way at 2:00pm on the Saturday with the traditional Survivors Walk, and the candlelight ceremony will be held at dusk.<\/p>\n

The relay will wrap up about 9:00am on Sunday.<\/p>\n

And you don’t have to be relaying to take part … there will be live entertainment, food vendors and a range of family-friendly activities designed to bring the community together to show their support \u2013 even if they\u2019re not taking part in the relay.<\/p>\n

Relay For Life is a fundraiser for Cancer Council Queensland, and the South Burnett always digs deep every year.<\/p>\n

Events such as the Dinner With Champions, Ride 4 Relay, Cattle For A Cure and numerous other activities have already seen the dollars start rolling in.<\/p>\n

But, sadly, more support is always needed.<\/p>\n

It’s not too late to register a team or make an online donation to support one of the 22 teams which are already registered.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every year, about 2090 people in the South Burnett and Darling Downs region are diagnosed with cancer and about 640 people will die.<\/p>\n

All donations raised through Relay For Life will fund Cancer Council Queensland\u2019s life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and support services.<\/p>\n

This year’s theme, \u201cCancer never sleeps, so neither do we\u201d reflects the return to an overnight event – so break out your PJs!<\/p>\n

Kingaroy local Lois Turner is this year’s South Burnett Face Of Relay.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mrs Turner awoke one morning with a dull pain in her breast. Scans revealed she had an invasive Stage 2 breast cancer, for which she had a lumpectomy and received rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think everybody knows about Relay For Life, but not everybody contributes to it,\u201d Mrs Turner said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important to get out and try and remind as many people as you can in the community that things like breast cancer and ovarian cancer and all the other types of cancer don\u2019t just affect the elderly.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people get it, young families with children get it, and those children go through it as much as cancer sufferers do.\u201d<\/p>\n
