Dozens of fire crews – supported by water bombers – were fighting large fires around the region on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: At 5:19pm on Saturday the bushfire alert for the South East Nanango bushfire was downgraded to STAY PREPARED<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Warning Level:<\/strong> Watch and Act<\/p>\n

Warning Area:<\/strong> Between Oaky Creek Road, Old Esk North Road, Hamilton Road and Muir Drive<\/p>\n

A dangerous fast moving fire is burning near Old Esk North Road and Oaky Creek Road. It is moving towards Muir Drive and Hamilton Road.<\/p>\n

Stay prepared as the fire could get worse quickly.<\/p>\n

At 6:30pm, there were 16 fire crews in action at the incident.<\/p>\n

EARLIER:<\/strong><\/p>\n

At 3:10pm on Saturday, a “Prepare To Leave” bushfire alert (see below) was issued for residents in the Oaky Creek Road, Old Esk North Road, Hamilton Road and Muir Drive areas of South-East Nanango.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This follows a “Stay Informed” alert issued earlier at 1:22pm.<\/p>\n

At 4:15pm, three water-bombing aircraft were assisting firefighters on the ground.<\/p>\n

A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said the bushfire was burning in challenging and inaccessible terrain.<\/p>\n

There were no structures under immediate threat but the fire was moving quickly, which is the reason why the “Prepare To Leave” alert had been issued.<\/p>\n

The fire broke out about 12:20pm.<\/p>\n

At 4:00pm, 21 fire units were in action.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, a shed wall was “charred” during a large grass fire burning near the intersection of Kingaroy-Cooyar Road and Brooklands-Pimpimbudgee Road at Brooklands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This fire broke out at 12:05pm and at one stage 13 fire units were on the ground, with a waterbomber assisting firefighters.<\/p>\n

A “Stay Informed” warning was issued to local residents at 12:42pm and police were called in to divert traffic on Kingaroy-Cooyar Road.<\/p>\n

By 3:30pm, the fire had been extinguished but rural fire crews were patrolling the area.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Fire crews were also working to protect structures on Saturday afternoon at a large grass fire burning on the western side of Spring Creek Road at Harlin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This fire broke out at noon.<\/p>\n

A waterbomber had been called in to assist firefighters on the ground.<\/p>\n

At 4:00pm, fire fighters were still in action with 14 crews at the incident.<\/p>\n

– If you are not prepared or find it hard to move quickly, your safest option is to leave early.<\/p>\n

– Pack a bag with device chargers, clothes, important documents, medicine, lots of drinking water, cash and other important items.<\/p>\n

– Be ready to take your pets, their food and supplies.<\/p>\n

– Wear protective clothing that covers your skin.<\/p>\n

– Do not fly drones around the fire as they affect firefighting.<\/p>\n
