Detailed design work has begun on a project to widen the remaining narrow sections of Mundubbera-Durong Road.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council, local residents, producer groups and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington have been pushing for years for the narrow sections of the key rural route – which carries heavy transport – to be widened to a dual carriageway.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said on Thursday that the State Government was progressing detailed design investigations to upgrade the remaining narrow sealed sections.<\/p>\n

About 17km at the moment is as narrow as four metres wide.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said it was a major milestone for communities across the South Burnett and North Burnett who have long called for improvements to the important road.<\/p>\n

“This is fantastic news for local residents, freight operators and the many travellers who rely on Mundubbera-Durong Road every day,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

“Member for Callide Bryson Head and I have worked hard to keep this project on the agenda because we understand just how important Mundubbera-Durong Road is to the communities we represent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The fact that some sealed sections are barely wider than a single traffic lane highlights why this work is so important. Moving towards a full two-lane road will help deliver safer, more reliable journeys for everyone.<\/p>\n

“Seeing detailed design progress is an exciting step forward and brings us closer to delivering the upgrades our communities have been asking for.”<\/p>\n

Actual construction will begin after further assessments.<\/p>\n
