Fire-fighting aircraft were still in action – and a “Stay Informed” warning in place – on Thursday morning at a large scrub fire burning south of Cooyar.<\/p>\n

The blaze broke out about 11:30am on Wednesday near Grahams and Woodrows roads at Wutul and quickly spread to cover an area of more than 400ha.<\/p>\n

Rural and urban fire crews were supported by water bombers and spotter aircraft to help contain the fire.<\/p>\n

A QFD spokesperson said at one stage there were 38 fire units in action, including both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fire was contained by 10:20pm, but fire crews returned on Thursday morning to conduct patrols and reinforce containment lines.<\/p>\n

Heavy machinery, including bulldozers, were brought in to cut firebreaks.<\/p>\n

At 11:15am, two aircraft were also assisting fire crews on the ground.<\/p>\n

No structures were under threat but a “Stay Informed” warning, first issued about 12:30pm on Wednesday, was still active at 10:08am on Thursday, with local residents warned the fire was now burning near East Cooyar Road.<\/p>\n
