Kingaroy’s Town Hall Forecourt was transformed into a sea of colour and music on Saturday for the South Burnett’s first “official” multicultural celebration.<\/p>\n

There have been several “Harmony Days” over the years in the local region, but this year the South Burnett Regional Council applied for funding under the State Government\u2019s \u201cCelebrating Multicultural Queensland\u201d grants program which supercharged the celebration of the different cultures which make up the region.<\/p>\n

Wakka Wakka Elder Uncle Eric Law AM opened the day with a Welcome To Country and also held a minute’s silence for the people of Tibet and Nepal, struck by recent floods.<\/p>\n

Performances during the day included spectacular Chinese Lion dancing, Mauritian dancing and singing, and Filipino and Thai dancing.<\/p>\n

Beat box champion Lukey Gray (aka Ray-D.O) also performed as well as a choir from Sing Australia.<\/p>\n

Paul Ricketts and Amber Goldsmith also provided live entertainment, singing traditional songs and country music.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the day was a parade around the celebration area, led by Rubatuba, which involved participants wearing traditional attire.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Best Dressed” prizes were awarded in the categories of men, women, boys and girls (see below).<\/p>\n

Deputy Mayor Linda Little said it had been a brilliant day, especially the way the different groups and the crowd had been interacting.<\/p>\n

There were eight food stalls selling everything from Japanese street food to American-pulled brisket.<\/p>\n

“A lot of people came up afterwards saying how much they appreciated that Council had organised it, and the entertainment was as good as you would see in Brisbane,” Cr Little said.<\/p>\n
