The offence carries a mandatory minimum custodial sentence of 12 months jail, to be wholly served in custody. For youth offenders, this is any &#8220;Adult Crime, Adult Time&#8221; offence. For adults, a serious offence also includes coercive control and Daniel\u2019s Law child sexual offences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Strengthening the bail threshold for serious offenders by introducing a new &#8220;high degree of confidence&#8221; test. Under the test, police or a court must refuse bail unless satisfied to a high degree of confidence that the offender will not commit another serious offence while on bail.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mrs Frecklington said these reforms were a direct response to community concerns about repeat offenders committing serious crimes while on bail.<\/p>\n<p>She said the reforms reinforced the State Government&#8217;s commitment to restoring safety and confidence in the justice system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I&#8217;ve listened to our community, and they&#8217;ve made it clear that enough is enough,&#8221; Mrs Frecklington said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our community has watched offenders receive chance after chance, only to reoffend while out on bail.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We promised Queenslanders we would do whatever it takes to make our communities safer, and that&#8217;s exactly what we&#8217;re doing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The proposed laws will now proceed through consultation and the Parliamentary committee process before being considered by Parliament.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs Frecklington invited residents to have their say on the new laws in an online <a href=\"https:\/\/listen2qld.com\/breachbail?r=i\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LNP feedback form<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attorney-General Deb Frecklington says she is proud to have introduced the &#8220;Breach Bail, Go to Jail and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026&#8221; to State Parliament, which she says will deliver the strongest bail laws in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":375361,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
