{"id":375350,"date":"2026-08-28T15:51:44","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T05:51:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=375350"},"modified":"2026-08-28T15:52:50","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T05:52:50","slug":"bird-flu-found-in-fox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2026\/08\/28\/bird-flu-found-in-fox\/","title":{"rendered":"Bird Flu Found In Fox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>August 28, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Testing at CSIRO\u2019s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness has confirmed H5 bird flu in a red fox.<\/p>\n<p>The animal was found in metropolitan Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>This is the third detection of H5 bird flu in a mammal in Australia, and the first in a land mammal.<\/p>\n<p>A Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry spokesperson said that on other continents, infection had been documented in a wide range of terrestrial carnivores, particularly species that scavenge carcasses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The spokesperson this detection in a fox was a good reminder that people and their pets should avoid sick or dead wildlife.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There remain no detections in poultry or in our agricultural production system and the risk to human health remains low.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Testing at CSIRO\u2019s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness has confirmed H5 bird flu in a red fox.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":105915,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,36],"tags":[1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
