{"id":374923,"date":"2026-08-11T19:19:55","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T09:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=374923"},"modified":"2026-08-11T19:19:55","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T09:19:55","slug":"man-jailed-for-killing-pedestrian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2026\/08\/11\/man-jailed-for-killing-pedestrian\/","title":{"rendered":"Man Jailed For Killing Pedestrian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>August 11, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A driver charged after a pedestrian was struck and killed in First Avenue, Kingaroy, in September 2024 has been sentenced to a total of nine years&#8217; jail.<\/p>\n<p>Jade Hugh Cherry, who was 30 and on parole at the time of the incident, will be eligible for parole on December 20, 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Cherry has been in custody since his arrest, which was taken into account during sentencing in the Kingaroy District Court last Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cherry pleaded guilty to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death<\/li>\n<li>Dangerous operation of a vehicle (with two prior convictions)<\/li>\n<li>Two charges of unlicensed driving<\/li>\n<li>Driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle<\/li>\n<li>Failing to provide a specimen for testing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He was also disqualified from driving absolutely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emergency crews were called to First Avenue about 5:00am on September 3, 2024, after a black Mercedes-Benz struck a 36-year-old Kingaroy man, Colin Watson.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Watson had been walking with another 27-year-old man when he was hit by the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>He died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations led police to locate the Mercedes at an address on Boonenne-Ellesmere Road in Taabinga.<\/p>\n<p>Police arrested Cherry, who was wearing a tracking device, soon afterwards.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related article: <a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2024\/09\/03\/pedestrian-struck-in-hit-and-run\/\">Fatal Hit-And-Run: Man Arrested<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A driver charged after a pedestrian was struck and killed in First Avenue, Kingaroy, in September 2024 has been sentenced to nine years jail.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":295347,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,24],"tags":[21,1132],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
