South Burnett Care plans to consult with the Yarraman community following a decision to close its Aged Care Day Centre in Douglas Street.<\/p>\n

The centre was opened in 2016 after a generous gift to the local community by the late Eva Cameron, from Upper Yarraman, who died at age 89 on December 29, 2011.<\/p>\n

In her will, she left a bequest for \u201cYarraman and District Aged Care\u201d.<\/p>\n

The executor and solicitors looked around for a like-minded organisation to fulfil the request.<\/p>\n

Two properties were eventually transferred to South Burnett Care.<\/p>\n

One property was sold, and the money reinvested in renovating the second property to develop an aged care respite centre in Yarraman.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last month, South Burnett Care CEO Celina Branch wrote to participants and carers to say the centre would be closing.<\/p>\n

“This has been a difficult decision, and we understand this news may be disappointing,” Ms Branch wrote.<\/p>\n

Monday services stopped last week, with Friday services due to stop on August 28.<\/p>\n

Mr Branch told southburnett.com.au that the decision was reached due to a decline in client numbers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are consulting with the community about the best way to honour Eva’s last wishes in relation to the use of the building going forward,” she said.<\/p>\n

She said South Burnett Care has been working with clients to find suitable alternative options.<\/p>\n

These could include attending the Kingaroy Day Centre or accessing small group support programs.<\/p>\n
