Queensland\u2019s 28th Governor will be Queensland Appeal Court judge, Justice Thomas Bradley.<\/p>\n

The announcement by Premier David Crisafulli on Tuesday morning follows the King’s approval of the appointment.<\/p>\n

Justice Bradley will replace Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM whose five-year term as Queensland Governor expires on November 1.<\/p>\n

Premier Crisafulli had previously stated that Dr Young’s term would not be extended.<\/p>\n

Justice Bradley has served on the Court of Appeal since March last year and as a sitting Judge of the Supreme Court from December 2018.<\/p>\n

He has also held a number of community leadership roles, including Chair of the Brisbane Festival Giving Committee, an ambassador for the Pinnacle Foundation and on the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art Foundation Committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cJustice Bradley has had a distinguished legal career in service of our State and will bring experience and honour to his appointment as Queensland\u2019s Governor,\u201d Premier Crisafulli said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBorn in Far North Queensland, Justice Bradley understands the unique challenges of our decentralised State and will help unify Queenslanders under our common experiences.”<\/p>\n

Justice Bradley said it was a tremendous honour to be appointed. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to meeting as many Queenslanders as possible across our State,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdvocacy for and patronage of a diverse range of Queensland groups is integral to the role and I share the goals of my predecessors to carry out constitutional responsibilities with dignity, fairness, and a commitment to the rule of law.<\/p>\n

\u201cI call to mind all we have in common as Queenslanders: the joy we share in each other\u2019s successes and the comfort we give in each other\u2019s sorrows. I am reminded that, in communities large and small, we are part of a common endeavour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justice Bradley was born in Cairns and educated at St Bernard\u2019s School and Clairvaux College.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He earned a Bachelor of Laws\u202fat Queensland University and was admitted to the Bar in July 2000.<\/p>\n

In November 2013, he was appointed Queen\u2019s Counsel; we will be sworn in to his new role on November 1.<\/p>\n

Premier Crisafulli thanked Dr Young – who served as Queensland’s Chief Health Officer from 2005 to 2021, including during the COVID pandemic – for her years of service to Queensland.<\/p>\n
