AgForce\u202fhas described the results of the State Government’s cattle tick management\u202freview as “a significant step” towards addressing industry concerns.<\/p>\n

The review followed a tick outbreak near\u202fTaroom\u202fearlier this year.<\/p>\n

It has recommended changes to improve system effectiveness, livestock movement control, education and awareness, privacy\u202fprotection\u202fand surveillance.<\/p>\n

AgForce\u202fGeneral President Shane McCarthy said the announcement reflected genuine engagement between Minister Tony Perrett and the cattle industry.<\/p>\n

“We appreciate the Minister and his department undertaking this review of cattle tick policy,\u201d Mr McCarthy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to see three new biosecurity officers focused on cattle\u202ftick\u202ffor Dalby, Kingaroy and Central Queensland as well as\u202fadditional\u202fcattle dip-testing locations.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The State Government also announced an immediate increase to the treatment subsidy for restricted properties in the tick-free zone and updates to the Accredited Certifier model, with greater regional field presence at high-risk such as saleyards.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased that the Minister listened to\u00a0industry\u00a0concerns\u00a0and we will continue to work with the Department on the implementation of these\u00a0recommendations,\u201d\u00a0Mr\u00a0McCarthy said.<\/p>\n

AgForce\u202fCattle Board president Lloyd Hick said the review was not about major changes, rather “tweaks\u202fthat\u202fstrengthen the system we already have”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIf these recommendations are implemented\u202fin a timely manner, it will make a real difference for industry,” Mr Hick said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgForce\u202fwill continue to work closely with the department as these measures are implemented and will seek ongoing collaboration on matters directly affecting producers.\u201d<\/p>\n
