{"id":374510,"date":"2026-07-22T15:50:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T05:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=374510"},"modified":"2026-07-22T15:50:19","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T05:50:19","slug":"smithfield-feedlot-sold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2026\/07\/22\/smithfield-feedlot-sold\/","title":{"rendered":"Smithfield Feedlot Sold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>July 22, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The massive Smithfield Feedlot, near Proston, has been sold for an undisclosed sum.<\/p>\n<p>It has been bought by Peter and Jane Hughes, members of one of Australia&#8217;s largest cattle families, in a partnership with Elbow Valley Beef&#8217;s Chris Shaw.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership has bought several other properties in Queensland and NSW over the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>The marketing material for the sale described Smithfield as covering about 2140ha and able to house 18,500 head of cattle in 175 large, shaded pens.<\/p>\n<p>The property also has a high-priority water licence from the Tarong pipeline from Boondooma Dam plus access to water from Stuart River.<\/p>\n<p>The feedlot was owned by the Smithfield Cattle Company, a family-run agribusiness which traces its history back to Alf Smith opening a butcher\u2019s shop in the South Burnett in 1928.<\/p>\n<p>The Smithfield Cattle Company also owns the 6000-head \u2018Sapphire\u2019 feedlot near Yelarbon in western Queensland which it bought in 2016.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related article: <a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2025\/12\/01\/smithfield-feedlot-for-sale\/\">Smithfield Feedlot For Sale<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The massive Smithfield Feedlot, near Proston, has been sold for an undisclosed sum.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":374516,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5,3,36],"tags":[1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
