Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has welcomed the news that the future of the Meandu Mine has been “secured” with the State Government committing to extending its operational life through to 2040.<\/p>\n

She told Sunday’s afternoon tea in Kingaroy that the State Government approval by Mines Minister Dale Last would provide long-term certainty for workers, families and regional communities and guarantee the long-term job security of 500 workers.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said the announcement was a major boost for the South Burnett region.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis extension supports local jobs, providing certainty to families who call this region home, and to local business owners who can continue to operate knowing they are supported by a strong local economy,\u201d she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Minister Last said the extension sent a clear message to Queenslanders that coal-fired generation would “continue to power the State for decades to come”.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe role of coal-fired power has a long future in Queensland, and I want every coal worker in this State to know that the Crisafulli Government supports your industry,\u201d Minister Last said.<\/p>\n
