{"id":372937,"date":"2026-06-08T23:34:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T13:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=372937"},"modified":"2026-06-08T23:34:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T13:34:10","slug":"kingaroy-welcomes-cabinet-visitors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2026\/06\/08\/kingaroy-welcomes-cabinet-visitors\/","title":{"rendered":"Kingaroy Welcomes Cabinet Visitors"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_372938\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-372938\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260607premier01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-372938 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260607premier01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260607premier01.jpg 740w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260607premier01-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260607premier01-269x167.jpg 269w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260607premier01-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260607premier01-340x211.jpg 340w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/20260607premier01-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-372938\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Health Minister Tim Nicholls, Attorney-General Deb Frecklington and Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>June 8, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington welcomed Premier David Crisafulli and 17 of her Ministerial colleagues to Kingaroy at the weekend as part of a special &#8220;Country Cabinet&#8221; visit to the region.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministers were accompanied by the Directors-General of their various departments as well senior staffers&#8230; the key public servants responsible for putting government directions into action.<\/p>\n<p>The MPs and officials gathered for an afternoon tea at the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre on Sunday afternoon amid tight security.<\/p>\n<p>All attendees had to book in advance and were checked by security officers at the door.<\/p>\n<p>A portion of Markwell Street was closed and uniformed and plain-clothes police kept a close watch.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Frecklington introduced each Minister to the crowd, and detailed some of the outcomes achieved within their portfolios over the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A round of applause greeted Mines Minister Dale Last who recently signed off on the King 2 East extension of the Meandu coal mine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The approval potentially extends operations at the mine, which supplies coal to the Tarong and Tarong North coal-fired power stations, by at least 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Frecklington said the extension delivered long-term security to the 500 workers at the mine and the neighbouring power stations.<\/p>\n<p>She also praised Housing Minister Sam O&#8217;Connor for the 38 new social and affordable homes being constructed in Nanango and Kingaroy under his watch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The aim of the Community Cabinets is to provide an opportunity for Cabinet Ministers to hear directly from the community about local issues and priorities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the informal afternoon tea, which included canapes served by Kingaroy State High School hospitality students and on-stage entertainment, the Ministers moved into a separate space to hold pre-arranged 15-minute private one-on-one, or small-group, meetings with local residents.<\/p>\n<p>This is the sixth Community Cabinet to have been held in Queensland since the Crisafulli Government won the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p><em>Footnote: The MPs travelled to Cherbourg on Tuesday for a formal Cabinet meeting.
