Round 1 of the Cobbo-Fuller Rugby League Cup became a stampede on a chilly Saturday afternoon in Kingaroy last weekend.<\/p>\n

Senior players from the South Burnett’s six clubs took on senior players from four Central Burnett clubs in the\u00a0 “Battle Of The Burnett”.<\/p>\n

At half-time, the South Burnett Eagles were leading 36-8 but by full-time the home team’s lead over the Central Burnett Brumbies had stretched out to 64-14.<\/p>\n

Blackbutt-Yarraman Timbertowners’ Daemon Cruise scored 24 of those points by himself, with two tries and six successful conversions in windy conditions (and it could have been more, as two of his attempts hit the posts).<\/p>\n

The hopes of Brumbies’ fans would have been raised when Jayden Williams scored just before half-time, and then repeated the effort just after the break.<\/p>\n

When Liam Kenny kicked the conversion, the scoreline was looking more respectable at 36-14.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But with 25 minutes left in the half, a Brumbies player was sin-binned after a dust-up after a tackle which allowed the Eagles to take off again.<\/p>\n

Other South Burnett try scorers were James Packer (2), Matt Mladenovic (2), Locky Price, Mitchell Bailey,\u00a0Barry Tapau-Fewquandie, Marcus Jensen, Adam Nightingale and Kaia Williams.<\/p>\n

The other Central Burnett try scorer was Mac Martin, who was named as the Brumbies’ best player of the game<\/p>\n

Not surprisingly, Daemon Cruise was named Player of the Match.<\/p>\n

The Cobbo-Fuller Cup recognises two well-known Dolphins\u2019 players: Selwyn Cobbo, from Cherbourg; and Trai Fuller, from Eidsvold.<\/p>\n

Round 2 will be played in Eidsvold on July 2.<\/p>\n
