Aspiring authors have been invited to attend this year’s Writers’ Retreat at the Bunya Mountains, part of the Western Downs Regional Council’s “Words Out West 2026” festival.<\/p>\n

The retreat, on June 20, features two\u00a0 workshops led by experienced authors.<\/p>\n

Merinda Dutton will take “Writing Between Worlds” which explores storytelling across cultures and perspectives.<\/p>\n

Writer, music-maker and poet Matt Hetherington will guide participants through “Ginko: a haiku walk”, a creative outdoor session inspired by the tradition of writing in nature.<\/p>\n

Western Downs Mayor Andrew Smith said the Words Out West Festival continued to bring people together and strengthen the region\u2019s creative spirit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHaving Merinda Dutton and Matt Hetherington lead this year\u2019s Writers\u2019 Retreat is a fantastic opportunity for our local storytellers to learn from diverse voices and explore new creative possibilities,” Mayor Smith said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir experience will encourage participants to grow in confidence, connect with others, and enjoy a day that celebrates creativity across the Western Downs.\u201d<\/p>\n
