May 22, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Blackbutt cemented its reputation as a “timber town” at its annual show last weekend, with big crowds turning out to watch the woodchopping and chainsaw competitions.<\/p>\n

Every age group and skill level seemed to be competing in the chopping ring, from children to veterans and Australian, Queensland and international champions.<\/p>\n

A visiting team of competitors from New Zealand added to the rivalry, taking on local axeman competing in Blackbutt colours on Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n

But the show wasn’t all about timber … there were also cattle (see below), a well-supported dog show, poultry and, of course, the pavilion competitions and sideshow alley.<\/p>\n

Blackbutt Lions Club members manned the gate, while Yarraman SES volunteers were making sure the car-parking went smoothly.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Out in the ring, the Outback Jack’s Stockman Show had some old favourites at the show including sheep dogs and whip-cracking.<\/p>\n

Fireworks filled the sky at night followed by live music.<\/p>\n

Also announced at the Blackbutt Show were the South Burnett winners of two important Queensland Ag Shows (QCAS) competitions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The winner of the Prime Beef Cattle Young Judges competition was Rhiannon McIntyre (Nanango Show), with runner-up Kaitlyn Barber (Kingaroy Show).<\/p>\n

The winner of the Stud Beef Young Paraders competition was Clancy D\u00fcll (Blackbutt Show), with runner-up Ryan Gould (Proston Show).<\/p>\n

These winners will now represent the South Burnett Sub-Chamber at the Brisbane Ekka.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett’s Showgirl and Rural Ambassador representatives will be announced at the South Burnett Sub-Chamber awards dinner on June 13 which will be hosted by the Nanango Show Society at the Nanango Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n
