Candle lighting ceremonies were held in Nanango and Cherbourg this week to mark Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.<\/p>\n

The Nanango event was hosted by Cr Jane Erkens and Cr Danita Potter in the grounds of Ringsfield House on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The Uniting Care Safe House hosted the Cherbourg event on Wednesday morning at the Lena Buck Centre.<\/p>\n

The events acknowledged the people who have lost their lives to domestic and family violence, as well as those who have survived the trauma.<\/p>\n

They were an opportunity for people to share experiences and get information in a safe space about where to get help.<\/p>\n

“Domestic and family violence causes deep harm,” Cr Potter said at the Nanango event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It damages not only the person directly affected but also children, parents, friends and other loved ones who are left to carry the pain, fear and disruption that violence creates.<\/p>\n

“The effects can reach far beyond the immediate incident and can last for years.”<\/p>\n
