Member for Flynn Colin Boyce has taken to social media to assure his electorate he remains “a dedicated member of the National Party”.<\/p>\n

He urged residents to disregard reports, which he described as “clickbait”, in The Guardian newspaper about his political future.<\/p>\n

Mr Boyce travelled to the Albury area in NSW to campaign for The Nationals candidate Brad Robertson at the weekend Farrer by-election.<\/p>\n

Mr Robertson finished in fourth sport on first preference votes, a long way behind One Nation candidate David Farley who secured almost 58 per cent of the vote after the distribution of preferences.<\/p>\n

The Guardian reported on Sunday that Mr Boyce “had left the door open” to switching following Once Nation’s strong win in the seat.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The reality of what has happened last night has to be put into perspective: so approximately 40 per cent primary vote in the Farrer by-election (was) for One Nation, so the big question is, what does that look like in central Queensland?\u201d Mr Boyce reportedly told the Guardian.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would argue if you\u2019re Pauline Hanson, it\u2019s a lot easier to campaign in Rockhampton than it is in Albury.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point in time, I\u2019m a member of the National Party, that\u2019s Sunday morning, whatever the date is today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Boyce then reportedly told the Guardian that “everybody should be thinking about their political future”.<\/p>\n

“If this isn\u2019t a wake-up call for conservative politics, what is?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The electorate of Flynn is one of the three Federal electorates that cross the South Burnett region.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In January, former National Party MP Barnaby Joyce – who swapped his allegiance to One Nation last year – said his party would welcome more Coalition defectors.<\/p>\n

However, Mr Joyce told the Guardian at the weekend that he would never encourage Mr Boyce to leave the Nationals: \u201cIt\u2019s like being divorced \u2013 it\u2019s completely and utterly your choice\u201d. <\/p>\n

In January, One Nation announced it would be opening an office in the Maranoa electorate, currently held by former Nationals leader David Littleproud.<\/p>\n
