Gympie Regional Council has awarded a $1 million contract to Protex Water Pty Ltd to upgrade the Goomeri Water Treatment Plant.<\/p>\n

A Council spokesperson said the work would improve the plant\u2019s performance and introduce a new softening process to improve drinking water quality.<\/p>\n

As part of the project, a trial aeration process will also be undertaken at Kinbombi Ponds, where Goomeri\u2019s surface water supply is stored.<\/p>\n

The trial aims to improve water quality so it can be treated at the plant, which is not currently possible due to algal blooms.<\/p>\n

Deputy Mayor Warren McEwan said the upgrades were an important step toward securing Goomeri\u2019s long-term water supply. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Cr McEwan said an upgrade to the Goomeri Sewerage Treatment Plant would also start later this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese works will deliver a modern sewerage system with improved treatment processes and increased automation, resulting in a more environmentally sustainable and cost-effective service for residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The works are scheduled to begin in mid-June with both water and sewerage upgrades expected to be completed by the end of this year, weather permitting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
