April 28, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Murgon’s Anzac Day commemorations began in the early hours of Saturday morning and wrapped up in the afternoon with the announcement of Murgon’s annual Anzac Art Prize.<\/p>\n

Sub-Branch members met at 4:45am in the Diggers Room at the club before heading to the war memorial for the Dawn Service.<\/p>\n

A large crowd turned out later in the morning to watch the march which wound its way around Lamb Street back to the memorial.<\/p>\n

Schoolchildren and local residents joined veterans in the parade, which also included an array of historic vehicles.<\/p>\n

Murgon State High School students were also a key part of the commemoration, reading out of the names of the local fallen during the service.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, the focus turned to the 55 Million Years Ago Museum and Art Gallery in Macalister Street where the winners of the Anzac Art Competition were announced at a well-attended afternoon tea.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The gallery received 19 entries in the competition.<\/p>\n

Taking home the $300 first prize was Murgon artist Jane Walduck with her fibre art wall hanging, “Remember Us”.<\/p>\n

Murgon State School won the wreath competition while artist Gael Kennett, from Goomeri, won the People’s Choice award with “Remember”.<\/p>\n

The artworks will remain on display at the gallery until June 15.<\/p>\n
