April 27, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anzac Day commemorations were held on Saturday in almost every town and village around the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, southburnett.com.au<\/strong> was not able to attend every event, so we are grateful to the people who have allowed us to share these photographs (below).<\/p>\n

We will publishing separate reports on commemorations in Nanango and Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Blackbutt<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Blackbutt’s Anzac Day commemorations began with the Dawn Service, accompanied by a piper from the balcony of the Hotel Radnor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Later in the morning, a march of veterans, local residents and schoolchildren headed down the highway from Muir Street to the Memorial where a commemoration service was held.<\/p>\n

Boondooma<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Boondooma Homestead’s annual Anzac Day commemoration is usually a much-loved part of the annual Spirit Of The Bush Balladeers & Heritage Muster but sadly this year’s festival was cancelled after concerns over fuel availability.<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, a service for local residents still went ahead with the laying of wreaths at the Boondooma monument, followed by a camp oven lunch and light entertainment in the grounds of the historic homestead.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Cherbourg Deputy Mayor Gordon Wragge compered the commemoration service held in Cherbourg’s Anzac Memorial Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The service and wreath-laying followed a parade which included veterans and family members, schoolchildren and emergency services personnel.<\/p>\n

Kumbia<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Kumbia’s Anzac Day commemorations began with a Dawn Service and wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument outside the Memorial Hall followed by a gunfire breakfast inside to raise funds for Legacy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Later in the morning, Kumbia Pony Club members were part of the traditional Anzac Day parade from the flower garden down the Bunya Highway to the hall where a service was held.<\/p>\n

Local resident Peter Curtain was the guest speaker, Katie Whiteman read the Resolutions, a hymn was sung and wreaths were laid at the foot of the stage.<\/p>\n

Proston<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Proston community gathered for a Dawn Service at the memorial in Collingwood Street, near the Proston RSL rooms.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wreaths were laid at the foot of the monument.<\/p>\n

Wondai<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Anzac Day is always a very big day in Wondai, with two marches as well as the annual Anzac Day races at the local track.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A march was held from the Post Office along Mackenzie Street at 5:00am followed by a Dawn Service at the Memorial in front of the Town Hall. At 10:00am, a second march followed the same route followed by a commemoration service and wreath laying.<\/p>\n
