The Australian Bureau of Statistics has begun hiring more than 16,000 Field Officers to help with the 2026 Census.<\/p>\n

Census spokesperson Emily Walter said Field Officers were hired locally where possible to provide local knowledge and support to their community.<\/p>\n

\u201cField Officers are crucial to the success of the 2026 Census,\u201d Ms Walter said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need people from across Australia to join the Census team, to help us to ensure everyone in Australia on Census night is counted.<\/p>\n

\u201cField Officers will answer the public\u2019s questions about the Census, deliver Census letters and forms and follow up with those who have not responded.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Field Officers also support people who require additional assistance to complete their Census.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking for people who are willing and motivated to help others and can communicate sensitively and respectfully,\u201d Ms Walter said.<\/p>\n

What skills do Census Field Officers need?<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and relationships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work in a team environment and independently<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • The ability to communicate sensitively and respectfully, taking into account cultural and diverse backgrounds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances and\/or situations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            What is the hourly rate for Census Field Officers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

            • The hourly rate for Census Field Officers is $31.19 (inclusive of 25 per cent casual loading), plus superannuation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
