South Burnett residents are being urged to protect themselves against the flu ahead of winter by visiting a free vaccination clinic which will be travelling across the region.<\/p>\n

All Queenslanders aged six months and over are eligible to receive a free flu vaccination until September 30.<\/p>\n

And this year, children aged 2 to 5 can get the flu vaccine as a nasal spray instead of a needle.<\/p>\n

In the South Burnett, “Tackle Flu” clinics will be held at:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Cherbourg <\/strong>– Cherbourg Hospital; Tuesday May 5, 9:00am\u20134:00pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Murgon <\/strong>– QEII Park in Lamb Street; Wednesday May 6, 9:00am\u20134:00pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Kingaroy <\/strong>– Town Hall Forecourt, 59 Glendon Street; Thursday May 7, 9:00am\u20134:00pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Nanango<\/strong> – QCWA Hall, 9 Fitzroy Street; Friday May 8, 9:00am\u20131:00pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          The clinics are open to everyone but Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents are especially encouraged to get vaccinated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \u201cWe know our mob face a higher risk of severe illness and complications from the flu, so it\u2019s important for our community to get vaccinated, to protect our little ones and our Elders,\u201d Darling Downs Health\u2019s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander project officer Ashley Taylor said.<\/p>\n

          Darling Downs Health spokesperson Dr Liam Flynn said the best way for anyone to avoid getting sick was to get a flu vaccine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \u201cFlu season in Queensland typically peaks in August,” he said.<\/p>\n

          \u201cInfluenza is a very contagious, viral infection that can affect the upper airways and lungs. Sometimes, the virus and its complications can be deadly.\u201d<\/p>\n

          Darling Downs Health has treated 340 lab-confirmed cases of the flu so far this year, more than at the same time last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Free flu vaccinations can also be organised through local GPs and many pharmacies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
