Tourism Minister Andrew Powell visited the Bunya Mountains at the weekend to inspect the results of the State Government’s $6.45 million upgrade to visitor facilities at Dandabah.<\/p>\n

The makeover included upgraded parking, picnic and toilet facilities; interpretative displays in the visitor information building; an elevated boardwalk and a wheelchair accessible barbecue area.<\/p>\n

“Reaching For The Sun” – the large “hand” artwork by Luke and Kim Duff which had been located in front of the Bunya Mountains Tavern – has been moved to near the new wheelchair-accessible walkway.<\/p>\n

Work on the upgrades began in April last year and was completed early this year.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said she was proud to bring Minister Powell to see first-hand the completed upgrades.<\/p>\n

She thanked the Bunya Mountains community for their patience throughout the construction period.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bunya Mountains is a special place for both locals and visitors, and the upgrades to Dandabah will only enhance the iconic national park even further,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project strengthens the South Burnett\u2019s appeal as a unique destination for eco-tourism and encourages more people to visit, explore and enjoy our region.\u201d<\/p>\n

Minister Powell said the upgrades would ensure the National Park remained a premier destination for ecotourism.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese upgrades are about protecting a world-class natural asset and positioning the South Burnett as a standout ecotourism destination,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The project is part of Destination 2045, a 20-year plan guiding the future of Queensland tourism.<\/p>\n
