Former Wondai Shire councillor Michael Duff – brother of South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff – has been selected in position five on the LNP’s Senate ticket for the next Federal Election.<\/p>\n

The joint Nationals and Liberals’ Queensland ticket was announced at the LNP State Council meeting in Brisbane on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The current ticket are sitting senators James McGrath (Liberal) and Matthew Canavan (Nationals) followed by Brisbane lawyer Adam Stoker (husband of former Liberal Senator Amanda Stoker, now LNP Member for Oodgeroo in State Parliament) in third spot and Michael Duff in fifth.<\/p>\n

Nominations are expected to be called for soon for the vacant four and six positions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As usual, the LNP will field a ticket of six candidates in Queensland for the half-Senate election.<\/p>\n

Political commentators have raised doubts over whether Senator Canavan – who was recently elected Nationals leader after a party spill – can win back his Senate spot from Number 2 if the predicted One Nation surge occurs, so the chances of the other candidates getting elected are very slim.<\/p>\n

Mr Duff, who is executive management officer at Toowoomba Regional Council, has admitted this himself.<\/p>\n

Speaking to southburnett.com.au<\/strong>, he said position five was unlikely to be winnable but as the second National on the ticket, he would be campaigning hard to ensure Senator Canavan was re-elected.<\/p>\n
