Grants of up to $100,000 will be available over the next three months for not-for-profit groups to put into action disaster preparedness priorities identified in local workshops.<\/p>\n

“Community roadmaps” were developed during the Disaster Resilient: Future Ready program (nicknamed “DR:FR”) delivered by the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) and the Red Earth Community Foundation in six South and North Burnett communities – Cherbourg, Dallarnil, Kalpowar, Kumbia, Proston and Tansey –\u00a0over the past three years.<\/p>\n

Just over $340,000 is available which FRRR hopes to share as evenly as possible across the six communities.<\/p>\n

Program Manager Nancy Sposato said FRRR was particularly keen to see projects that engaged young people, built the capacity of not-for-profit organisations or that were hyperlocal to the six communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe roadmaps were developed through a series of conversations and workshops, so we know that the opportunities and initiatives identified in those documents reflect local priorities,” she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Those things differ place by place. In each location, there are local groups that are really active and important to the community, so we\u2019re open to projects that strengthen those organisations.<\/p>\n

“Projects could also involve more training, accessing specialist advice and support, purchasing or hiring equipment, small infrastructure projects or supporting and developing volunteers.\u201d<\/p>\n

All applicants should discuss their proposal with FRRR prior to applying.<\/p>\n

The final funds will be awarded in June.<\/p>\n

The DR:FR program was supported by the Minderoo Foundation and the Federal Government\u2019s Preparing Australian Communities Program (Local)\u202f.<\/p>\n
