When the wet weather hit recently it smashed the South Burnett, cutting roads and flooding paddocks …\u00a0 but luckily the 68th Proston Show managed to scrape in before the worst of it!<\/p>\n

A few things on the show program were affected by the weather but overall, Show Society president Mortimer Duff’s aim to make it the most affordable day out for families in the South Burnett was a big success.<\/p>\n

The $10 unlimited rides for children were very popular, and there was a record number of entries in many competitions, including Prime Cattle and the Stockman’s Challenge.<\/p>\n

And the weather couldn’t stop the fireworks!<\/p>\n

Numbers were also up in the miniature horse and pony sections.<\/p>\n

Chief steward (cooking and jams) Denise Steinhardt was particularly proud of the pavilion entries in her sections.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The judge, Lorraine Kiem, said the quality was outstanding, leading to very hard decisions,” she said.<\/p>\n

Chief steward (stud beef cattle) Michael Duff said more than 100 head of cattle competed despite the forecasts of heavy rain (see Cattle Results, below).<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFor a regional show, it was an excellent turnout, which reflects the strong support the Proston Show receives from stud breeders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe dry conditions leading into the show certainly contributed to the strong cattle numbers this year, and it was terrific to see exhibitors travel to support the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking ahead, we expect the 2027 Proston Show to be even bigger, particularly with many breeders already preparing cattle for the 2027 Rockhampton Beef Expo.\u201d<\/p>\n
