Employees of a large tourism and hospitality business on the Bunya Mountains have received special fire evacuation training tailored specifically to its unique mountain environment.<\/p>\n

Torkit Business Solutions provided the on-site training recently for staff of The Bunyas, which operates a tavern, restaurant, general store and accommodation.<\/p>\n

The workers received practical instruction in general evacuation and first-response procedures as well how to identify site risks and understand fire safety equipment.<\/p>\n

They also took part in a practice evacuation drill.<\/p>\n

The Bunyas’ HR manager Kirstin Curtain\u00a0said ensuring staff feel confident and prepared was a priority for the business.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important that everyone understands exactly what to do in an emergency and feels confident responding calmly and effectively,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Bunya Mountains Community Association secretary Carol Weekes – who is also the community liaison officer for the Bunya Mountains Local Disaster Management Subgroup – was also invited to provide a short presentation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mrs Weekes explained the broader evacuation processes which would operate across the Bunya Mountains in the event of a bushfire or major emergency.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile our primary focus is our own site procedures, it\u2019s valuable for our staff to understand how a whole-of-mountain evacuation would work and how our business fits into that broader response,\u201d Mrs Curtain said.<\/p>\n

Torkit Business Solutions director Tina Torrens said the focus of the training was on practical preparedness.<\/p>\n

\u201cFire, evacuation and emergency training is most effective when it\u2019s tailored to the environment people actually work in,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Our focus is on making procedures clear, practical and easy to follow, so staff feel confident if they ever need to put them into action.”<\/p>\n
