The State Government has drafted legislation to target anti-social behaviour and drug offences in defined business and community precincts.<\/p>\n

The “Designated Business and Community Precincts” concept has been included in legislation which has been introduced into State Parliament.<\/p>\n

It will target specific areas of concern across Queensland where public order offending and antisocial behaviour have been affecting trade and public safety.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said the precincts would be selected “in consultation with Local Government, local police and community stakeholders”.<\/p>\n

Submissions would open soon.<\/p>\n

The newly defined precincts will follow a similar framework to the Safe Night Precincts which already exist in key entertainment areas across Queensland.<\/p>\n

The State Government will also empower police to remove and immediately ban offenders engaging in disorderly, offensive, threatening or violent behaviour in key commercial areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Police will be able to issue 24-hour move-on directions or banning notices of up to one month for repeat or serious offenders.<\/p>\n

Contravening these directions would be a criminal offence.<\/p>\n
