A national test of the new AusAlert emergency alert system will take place at 2:00pm AEST on Monday, July 27<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

February 27, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

A new Federal Government national mobile phone emergency alert system, AusAlert, will begin testing this year.<\/p>\n

It is expected to be operational by October, in time for the 2026-27 high-risk weather season.<\/p>\n

AusAlert will enable authorities to send geographically targeted emergency messages to all compatible mobile devices within a 160-metre accuracy.<\/p>\n

It will be supported by a dedicated website and will not be affected by telecommunication network congestion.<\/p>\n

Community-based trials are expected to take place across urban, regional, and remote areas in all States and Territories in June.<\/p>\n

A national test will take place at 2:00pm AEST on Monday, July 27, to validate the system\u2019s full capability and support awareness of the new system.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the national test, everyone with a compatible mobile device will receive an alert.<\/p>\n

Emergency Management Minister Kristy McBain said the community and national tests were significant milestones for AusAlert.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Albanese Government is undertaking these tests to ensure the technology performs as expected, and to build community awareness before AusAlert is needed in an actual emergency,” she said.<\/p>\n
