The State Government-owned Stanwell Corporation has pulled out of its proposed ownership of the Tarong West wind farm development at Ironpot.<\/p>\n

Stanwell had held an option to acquire 100 per cent of the wind farm pending the successful outcome of the approval process.<\/p>\n

Tarong West received Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation approval – one of the final milestones before construction can start – from the Federal Government just last week.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, a two-sentence statement appeared on the Stanwell website:<\/p>\n

Stanwell has transferred its option to acquire the Tarong West Wind Farm to a private investor who will progress the project with RES. <\/em><\/p>\n

Stanwell retains exclusivity to negotiate a long-term commercial offtake arrangement for power from the Tarong West Wind Farm through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).<\/em><\/p>\n

The proposed Stanwell ownership of Tarong West was first mentioned in 2022 when the then-Labor State Government announced the project had been allocated $776 million from the $2 billion Queensland Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was formalised in September 2024 when Stanwell CEO Michael O\u2019Rourke and RES Australia CEO Matt Rebbeck signed the options agreement, described at the time by Stanwell as “an historic deal”.<\/p>\n

However, rumours have circulated since the Liberal-National Party took power at the October 2024 State Election that Stanwell might pull out of the arrangement.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff said she was “surprised” by the Stanwell announcement but had heard the rumours.<\/p>\n

southburnett.com.au<\/strong> has sought comment from both Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington and RES, the developers of the project.<\/p>\n
