More than 20 pets found their furr-ever homes at the special Valentine’s Open Day at the new Animal Management Centre in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council took over the former RSPCA facility near Kingaroy Airport on July 1 last year.<\/p>\n

South Burnett residents were invited to drop in to the facility on Saturday to check out the kittens, cats, puppies and dogs in need of homes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The would-be pets were available for special prices: $100 for dogs and $50 for cats, which included desexing.<\/p>\n

But the biggest drawcard was probably the free microchipping, available for both cats and dogs.<\/p>\n

The weather was overcast, cool and drizzling but that didn’t stop a steady stream of visitors coming through on the day.<\/p>\n

A Council spokesperson said 16 cats and five dogs found new homes on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As well, 30 animals were microchipped.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff said she wanted to acknowledge the wonderful Council staff and volunteers at the Animal Management Centre.<\/p>\n

She said that when Cr Heath Sander first suggested that Council run the facility when the RSPCA relinquished its lease, she had been sceptical but it had become a reality thanks to the staff.<\/p>\n

Since then more than 400 animals had gone through the facility.<\/p>\n
