Seven new local apprentices and trainees kickstarted their careers at the Tarong power stations during National Apprenticeship Week (February 9-15).<\/p>\n

The four new apprentices and three new trainees will be trained to fill a range of roles including mechanical fitter, electrician, business administration and laboratory technician.<\/p>\n

The Apprenticeship and Trainee program gives the applicants the experience needed for a successful career in the energy industry while completing qualifications through TAFE.<\/p>\n

Stanwell General Manager Southern Generation Mick Joy said the program offered hands-on learning to give early career workers an authentic understanding of how Stanwell\u2019s operations kept the lights on for Queensland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe program exposes apprentices and trainees to real operational scenarios from the moment they walk through the door. They are learning on the tools, asking questions, and being guided by experienced energy professionals,\u201d Mr Joy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBuilding a capable, future-ready workforce is critical for the long-term success of Queensland\u2019s energy system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis program allows young Queenslanders to build long-term careers close to home, contribute to regional growth, and help ensure our power stations continue to be supported by people who understand and care about our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former Kingaroy State High School student Jasmine Whye, part of Stanwell\u2019s 2025 intake, said the program encouraged participants to embrace new challenges while receiving genuine mentorship.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince starting the program, I\u2019ve been able to rotate through different projects and teams, which has been exciting as every week brings something new to learn,” Jasmine said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve built new skills and discovered career pathways I didn\u2019t know existed before joining Stanwell. The program is both rewarding and empowering.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stanwell has welcomed 74 apprentices and trainees through its development program during the past five years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Applications for Stanwell’s 2027 intake will open later this year.<\/p>\n
