A representative from country racing will be appointed to the Board of Racing Queensland, part of a shake-up of the industry planned by the State Government.<\/span><\/p>\n

A State Government spokesperson said on Friday amendments to the <\/span>Racing Act 2002<\/span> would also ensure the Board had a representative from each of the racing codes to make sure the views of the whole industry were reflected.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The amendments would also “ensure the industry\u2019s governance model is more efficient and effective”.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Racing Minister Tim Mander said implementing changes to the Board was the first step in progressing much-needed reforms for Queensland\u2019s racing industry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cRacing\u2019s impact on the state is now close to $2.5 billion per year and is responsible for around 14,500 full-time jobs for Queenslanders, so it\u2019s vital we ensure it will grow and prosper well into the future,” Minister Mander said<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cDuring the Review process, we listened to the racing community from across the State and determined the changes that needed to be made, including governance, as a matter of urgency.<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0imperative we have a Board that not only\u00a0represents\u00a0the three codes of racing, but also\u00a0represents\u00a0the entire racing community, particularly country racing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
