The Bureau of Meteorology issued a Flood Watch warning on Friday afternoon for minor to moderate flooding this weekend across parts of southern Queensland, including the Wide Bay-Burnett.<\/p>\n

At 1:15pm, BOM said that a trough and southerly change was located about the south-east coast.<\/p>\n

“Another trough will linger for several days across southern and central Queensland, drawing deep tropical moisture more broadly across the State.<\/p>\n

“These features are expected to enhance shower and storm activity over multiple days.<\/p>\n

“Moderate to heavy falls are likely across the Flood Watch area for the remainder of Friday, slowly moving to the north into the weekend.<\/p>\n

“Catchments are beginning to become wet due to rainfall on Thursday and Friday morning, with river level rises and areas of flooding likely across the Flood Watch area.<\/p>\n

“Minor to moderate flooding is possible from Friday afternoon and over the weekend, with rapid river level rises possible in areas that receive the heaviest rainfall.<\/p>\n

“Heavy rainfall may cause significant flash flooding, including over densely populated areas within the Flood Watch.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“There remains significant uncertainty in the location and timing of the heaviest falls, particularly over the weekend. The situation will be monitored closely and Flood Warnings issued as required.”<\/p>\n

BOM listed several catchments likely to be affected, including the Burnett River, Mary River and Upper and Lower Brisbane rivers.<\/p>\n
