The JPs In The Community Program volunteers in Kingaroy would like to issue an invitation to the almost 100 qualified Justices of the Peace in Kingaroy … please join us!<\/p>\n

Volunteer JPs (Qual) and Commissioners for Declarations (Cdecs) help local residents with their documents every weekday at the Kingaroy Library from noon to 2:00pm.<\/p>\n

Two groups handle the daily roster: one has 11 members and one just three.<\/p>\n

They would love to have enough people available so that eventually everyone would only have to volunteer one day a month.<\/p>\n

The JPs In The Community Program has operated in Kingaroy for about 20 years, firstly at the Kingaroy Mall and since 2022 at Kingaroy Library.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The library space is perfect as it provides privacy for the clients. The Library staff and computers are also available to help with any research required.<\/p>\n

“Since operating from the library, we have served 9684 clients and witnessed 24,673 documents,” volunteer Barry Krosch said.<\/p>\n

“The most common needs are to certify copies, witness signatures, witness Enduring Powers of Attorney and Advanced Health Directives, wills, traffic infringement notices and statutory declarations.<\/p>\n

“Due to pending retirements and the busy lives of some JPs, there is a need to attract and train additional JPs in Kingaroy.”<\/p>\n

Volunteer John Box said volunteer JPs\u00a0 and CDecs should not be worried they will be “tossed into the deep end”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mentoring would be offered to anyone who offered to step in and help.<\/p>\n

All the work the volunteers do is totally free to the community, and much appreciated.<\/p>\n

“The great majority of our clients are very patient and will wait if there is a queue to see the duty JP,” Barry said.<\/p>\n

The JPs In The Community Program is officially sanctioned by the Department of Justice which covers public liability.<\/p>\n

“We would love to hear from local JPs who are currently qualified as JP (Qual) or Cdec to join the site team,” Barry said.<\/p>\n

“Potential team members can be monitored by existing team members until they are able to work a shift alone. They would generally be able to work shifts which suit them best but ideally would be available to work once a fortnight.”<\/p>\n
