The Kingaroy Local Ambulance Committee (LAC) is calling on all South Burnett organisations to make sure their life-saving Automated External Defibrillators are registered with the Queensland Ambulance Service.<\/p>\n

Registering your AED can save lives.<\/p>\n

LAC member Leonie Gavioli said access to an AED can mean the difference between life and death.<\/p>\n

Every year, hundreds of Queenslanders experience sudden heart attacks outside of hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen an AED is registered, its location is added to the QAS database,\u201d Ms Gavioli said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis allows Triple Zero (000) call-takers to direct bystanders to the nearest available defibrillator while an ambulance is on the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a cardiac arrest, every minute without defibrillation reduces a person\u2019s chance of survival by up to 10 per cent, so knowing exactly where an AED is located can save precious time.<\/p>\n

\u201cRegistering an AED is a great way for businesses, schools, sporting clubs and community organisations to demonstrate their commitment to public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

Defibrillators can be registered (and re-registered every 12 months) for free on the QAS website<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ms Gavioli said organisations could also contact the Kingaroy LAC if they required help with the registration process.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy LAC also runs regular AED and CPR training sessions for not-for-profit groups.<\/p>\n
