Member for Flynn Colin Boyce’s bid to oust Nationals Leader David Littleproud failed on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The Nationals’ party room met in Canberra for the first time since the break from the Coalition on January 22.<\/p>\n

Mr Boyce put forward a spill motion despite reportedly not canvassing his colleagues ahead of time to support him.<\/p>\n

Commentators suggested Mr Boyce was perhaps trying to “smoke out” another challenger with the motion, however that did not occur.<\/p>\n

Following the failure of the spill motion, Mr Littleproud was expected to meet with Liberal Party leader Sussan Ley on Monday evening.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Nationals split from the Coalition with the Liberals last month after Ms Ley accepted the resignation of three frontbench Nationals\u2019 Senators \u2013 Susan McDonald, Bridget McKenzie and Ross Cadell \u2013 whom the Liberals assert defied Shadow Cabinet solidarity by voting against a Labor Bill which aimed to strengthen hate speech laws.<\/p>\n

Mr Littleproud and Mr Boyce represent adjoining Federal electorates that each cover a section of the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Statement By Colin Boyce<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The leadership spill motion was debated in today\u2019s National Party room and was voted down.<\/strong><\/p>\n

David Littleproud remains the leader of the National Party.<\/p>\n

Now, it is critical the Coalition is restored, something I have been calling for from the start.<\/p>\n

We must stand up for everyday Australians against an incompetent Labor Government whose spending is out of control, whose energy policies are reckless, and whose approach to national security is weak.<\/p>\n

As always, I am committed to the people of Flynn and will continue to advocate for their future as well as the core values of the National Party.<\/p>\n
