The future of rugby league is looking good in the South Burnett with 85 young people taking part in two “Beyond The Nest” training camps at the weekend.<\/p>\n

At Murgon Showgrounds, 71 boys aged 13-17 camped in the South Burnett PCYC building on Friday and Saturday nights; while in Kingaroy, 14 girls camped on Saturday night in the Maryknoll Centre at St Mary’s Catholic College.<\/p>\n

The camps include “skills and drills” but they also aim to foster discipline and mateship as well as simply encouraging the youngsters to have a great time.<\/p>\n

Five professional coaches from the Dolphins NRL club visited the Murgon BTN camp on Friday to lead the training.<\/p>\n

A special guest was former Broncos assistant coach and UK Super League coach John Dixon.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the boys were put through an “army boot camp” led by ex-Defence Force members Mick Johnson and Gary Landman, from Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

They also hosted a visit by Member for Nanango, Attorney-General Deb Frecklington.<\/p>\n

The boys’ camp wound up on Sunday afternoon with the traditional Eggs v Eagles netball game between the older boys and the camp leaders … which the leaders won for the ninth year running!<\/p>\n

In Kingaroy, the girls camp included skills training led by Mitch Cush as well as team-bonding exercises.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These included a run up Mt Wooroolin!<\/p>\n

Guest speakers included Stefanie Bofinger, from Kingaroy-based Fempro Armour, and Belinda Lewis, from the My Wellness Bar pilates studio in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

This is the ninth year the boys’ BTN camp has been held, and the third (second overnight) for the girls.<\/p>\n
