A funeral service was held in Kingaroy on Monday for former local councillor and Wattle Grove farmer William “Bill” Moss who died, aged 85, on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n

Bill served on Kingaroy Shire Council for 30 years.<\/p>\n

He was also a founding member of the Kumbia State Emergency Service group and served as an SES volunteer for several decades.<\/p>\n

He was also involved in many other local activities and groups, including the South Burnett Show Society and the Inverlaw Farmers Hall committee.<\/p>\n

Bill was born into a farming family in NSW in 1940.<\/p>\n

After leaving school at the age of 14, he worked on his family’s property near Cowra as well as doing shearing and droving.<\/p>\n

He married the love of his life, Rosemary, in 1959 in Sydney while the pair were still teenagers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The couple settled near Cowra before moving with their three children to Wattle Grove in Queensland in 1967.<\/p>\n

At Wattle Grove, they had three more children, farmed peanuts and Bill also did bore sinking and windmill repairs on local properties.<\/p>\n

His areas of responsibility on Council varied over the years, including natural resource management, rural services, welfare, aged care and community safety.<\/p>\n

He was part of the original Saleyards Committee that managed the relocation of the Kingaroy saleyards to Coolabunia in 1982.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bill moved into Forest View Aged Care at Wondai in 2024.<\/p>\n

He is survived by his wife Rosemary and a large family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n

The couple would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary next month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
