Blackbutt notched up a good win in front of an enthusiastic home crowd in the South Burnett Premier League competition last weekend.<\/p>\n

The Timbertowners downed Nanango 44-24, with their attacking trio of Dylan Gilliland, Ashley Smallwood and Blake Harvey all scoring doubles.<\/p>\n

Blackbutt opened strongly, crossing the line almost immediately but the play was pulled back by the ref after a forward pass. Two minutes later, Blackbutt did it properly with Dylan Gilliland sprinting away and shaking off the Stags’ fullback to score.<\/p>\n

Nanango struck right back with Brian De La Cruz somehow finding his way over the tryline by burrowing through the Blackbutt defence in front of the goalposts.<\/p>\n

The next three tries went to the Timbertowners (Blake Harvey, Adam Kane and then Harvey again), before the Stags scored via Jayden Jarvis.<\/p>\n

Two minutes to the break Gilliland picked up his second try.<\/p>\n

The score at half-time was Blackbutt 26, Nanango 12, but the Stags were by no means out of the game and were stretching the Timbertowners’ defence when the hooter sounded.<\/p>\n

Blackbutt drew first blood in the second half with an early try to Joel Smallwood, but Nanango recovered quickly to put on back-to-back tries, to Rob Ryan and Jayden Jarvis.<\/p>\n

Nanango were looking hopeful, with \u00a0Blackbutt ahead by just two tries and plenty of time left on the clock.<\/p>\n

But it was not to be. Although Casey Morris reduced the deficit for the Stags with a try, the Timbertowners’ Ashley Smallwood put on two tries before full-time.<\/p>\n

Brett Stimpson finished the game with two goals for Nanango. \u00a0Blackbutt goals were kicked by Andrew Hewitt (5) and Matt Davis (1).<\/p>\n

The top-of-the-table clash between Cherbourg and Wondai wasn’t as close as fans would have hoped, with the Hornets romping home 53-12.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The game started evenly enough, with Cherbourg (Nigel Williams) and Wondai (Shane Borninkhof) swapping tries.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg then put on three tries … two by Thomas Simpson. Fred Aubrey also scored after taking a pass from Williams, who broke through the Wolves’ defence and took off down the field.<\/p>\n

The half-time score was Cherbourg 24, Wondai 6.<\/p>\n

The Hornets came out in the second half looking like they wanted to have some fun.<\/p>\n

They put on three quick tries (Daniel Cobbo, Nigel Williams and Fred Aubrey), and suddenly the score had blown out to 42-6.<\/p>\n

Brodie Litfin restored some Wolves’ pride scoring after a Wondai scrum win. \u00a0A few minutes later Wondai crossed the tryline again but it was no try.<\/p>\n

Thomas Simpson then picked up his treble for the Hornets, before Cherbourg scored again (Lyndon Hopkins).<\/p>\n

Bernard Hopkins then rubbed salt into the wound with a cheeky field goal but to the Wolves’ credit they were still on the attack when the full-time siren sounded.<\/p>\n

Fred Aubrey finished the game with two tries and eight goals for the Hornets.<\/p>\n

Lewis Hopkins kicked two goals for Wondai.<\/p>\n
