With Blackbutt forfeiting its A Grade match against the Hornets on Saturday, the crowd at Jack O’Chin Oval in Cherbourg missed out on the opportunity of cheering on the local heroes.<\/p>\n

But the “second” match, between Nanango and Wondai, was an entertaining if lopsided affair which seemed to keep the spectators happy on a cold and windy day.<\/p>\n

Tyrone Mickelo opened the scoring for the Wolves just three minutes after kick-off.<\/p>\n

Wondai then piled on six tries over the next 30 minutes (Luke Hedges 2, Danny Alberts 2, Brodie Litfin and Lewis Hopkins) before Nanango finally troubled the scorer.<\/p>\n

Shane Williams’ try for the Stags, which was converted by Brett Simpson, was followed five minutes later by another Nanango four-pointer, this time by Casey Morris. Simpson added the extra points with a difficult kick from the sideline.<\/p>\n

At half-time, Wondai led 36-12 but Nanango seemed to be on a comeback.<\/p>\n

The Wolves put paid to these thoughts after the break with two quick tries in two minutes (Danny Alberts and Chris Bond), before Jayden Jarvis scored in the corner for Nanango.<\/p>\n

The Stags then kept Wondai out for almost 10 minutes before Jack McDowall broke through to cross the line, backed up a few minutes later by Danny Alberts with his fourth try for the day.<\/p>\n

With the scoreline at Wondai 58, Nanango 18, the Stags could have been forgiven if they’d simply packed up and gone home, but they played some of their best football in the last 15 minutes, showing what they could do if they kept possession.<\/p>\n

Brett Simpson, whose boot had been on target for the Stags, was rewarded with a try after Nanango were given back-to-back penalties.<\/p>\n

Jameel Sullivan then crossed for Wondai before Shane Williams scored his second for Nanango … after the full-time siren.<\/p>\n

The final score was Wondai 64, Nanango 26.<\/p>\n
