The Mayor’s Community Christmas Lunch has become an important annual tradition in the South Burnett … and a very\u00a0important fundraiser to support vulnerable local families.<\/p>\n

Local businesses, community groups and residents pitched in to help make Friday’s lunch, held at the Kingaroy Town Hall, a big success.<\/p>\n

All the food was donated by local businesses as well as 79 raffle prizes.<\/p>\n

Diners paid $30 a head to enjoy a Christmas lunch prepared and served by QCWA volunteers.<\/p>\n

They enjoyed cold ham, sliced chicken and salad, plus dessert, with ingredients donated by Peries IGA Kingaroy and Swickers.<\/p>\n

Other volunteers manned the doors and sold raffle tickets while Youth Council members cleared the tables.<\/p>\n

On stage, musical entertainment was provided by Nanango’s Shedders as well as a very enthusiastic performance by members of Murgon’s Rockin Our Abilities crew.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guest speaker was Sonia Morgan – probably better known by her maiden name McMahon – who founded the music program for people with disabilities after she arrived in the South Burnett in 2019.<\/p>\n

From tiny beginnings, the group will be hosting its 10th concert on December 13 in Kingaroy, and will also be opening a Kingaroy chapter on January 28.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kathy Duff thanked everyone who had made the lunch a success, especially Brett Chaseling, from Musicians Oasis who handled the sound; the council staff who organised the event and her fellow councillors.<\/p>\n

All the money raised will be converted into vouchers and distributed by local charities, including Graham House, the South Burnett Pantry and Blackbutt and Benarkin Lions Club.<\/p>\n
