It might take some time, but a bunch of Wooroolin youngsters have learned it can be very worthwhile to contact your local MP when you have an issue.<\/p>\n

Back in 2021, two Wooroolin boys wrote a heartfelt letter to their local MP, Deb Frecklington, asking her to build a skate park at Wooroolin.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington’s party, the LNP, wasn’t in power at the time, but she decided to try to track down the letter writers and meet them.<\/p>\n

She was moved by their passion and enthusiasm as they explained their ideas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project hasn\u2019t left my mind since those first conversations,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the 2024 State Election, Mrs Frecklington promised that if the LNP won power, the skate park would become a reality.<\/p>\n

And so it has … after $150,000 funding was allocated from the State Government’s Games On! funding program in the lead up to the 2032 Olympics.<\/p>\n

The new Wooroolin skate park was officially opened on Wednesday afternoon by Mrs Frecklington and Nate Webb, one of the original letter writers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said she was proud of the project which had resulted from strong community advocacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt includes a half basketball court and skate ramps, creating a space that will be a wonderful asset for young people, families and the whole community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington also acknowledged the support of the South Burnett Regional Council with the project.<\/p>\n

The Wooroolin Community Committee also assisted with the erection of the basketball net.<\/p>\n

Deputy Mayor Ros Heit said the community was now hoping to upgrade the adjacent tennis court and perhaps renovate the tennis clubhouse, if grant funding can be accessed.<\/p>\n
