Visit South Burnett held a meet’n’greet for tourist operators and community members at the Nanango Fire Pit earlier this month.<\/p>\n

The metal pit, which is located at the Tipperary Flat short-stay area and picnic ground on the D’Aguilar Highway, has proven popular with visitors (and Nanango residents) since it opened in May last year.<\/p>\n

The large ring started off life at a mine before being turned into a fire pit by Nanango resident Des Schloss.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Regional Council then provided the concrete barrier and set up sandstone seating a safe distance away from the pit.<\/p>\n

The VSB get-together was an opportunity for members of the local tourism organisation to experience a hot dinner cooked at the pit as well as explore the other attractions at Tipperary Flat.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It also allowed the association to unveil its new marquee which will be used to promote the South Burnett region at events.<\/p>\n

Artist Robyn Dower and videographer Charlie Spagalli provided an update about the ongoing “Wouldn’t You Like To Be In My Shoes?” project which is capturing South Burnett events and culture on film to showcase the region.<\/p>\n

The pair have been run off their feet during the past three months, attending events right across the region and photographing people in giant gym boots.<\/p>\n

A highlight of the meet’n’greet was a presentation by former Nanango Shire Council employee Damien Shelley, who was one of the supervisors involved in the development of Tipperary Flat back during the days of Nanango Shire Council.<\/p>\n

He said the project, which included the construction of a slab hut, round yard and working wind mill, was completed during a scheme in the 1990s to assist long-term unemployed.<\/p>\n
