Kingaroy Hospital employee James Fulton was presented with a “Courage Award” trophy at the recent Darling Downs Health Annual Awards.<\/p>\n

Mr Fulton, who is part of the hospital’s “healthcare ambassador” program, was recognised for his actions during an incident at the hospital earlier this year involving an armed person.<\/p>\n

His citation read: “James stayed calm under threat at Kingaroy Hospital, guiding patients and staff to safety, liaising with police and defusing a volatile situation with extraordinary bravery.”<\/p>\n

Healthcare ambassadors are trained to work with staff and patients to identify and address situations before they escalate.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Hospital has an ambassador stationed in the hospital\u2019s Emergency Department to maintain a safe and secure environment.<\/p>\n

A Darling Downs Health spokesperson said James’ \u00a0calm negotiation, rapid evacuation guidance and support to police defused a tense and frightening situation.<\/p>\n

Chief executive Annette Scott PSM said James\u2019 courage under fire exemplified the very best of the health service’s values.<\/p>\n

\u201cCourage isn\u2019t just about facing danger, it\u2019s about leading with calm and compassion under extreme pressure,\u201d Ms Scott said.<\/p>\n

\u201cJames showed us that real courage saves lives and strengthens our trust in each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis quick thinking and selfless dedication ensured the safety of everyone in his care. We are privileged to recognise him at the awards.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Hospital volunteer Delma Woodall was also recognised at the awards: “Delma welcomes every visitor to Kingaroy Hospital with kindness and respect, ensuring a positive first impression.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

And Allied Health South Burnett, based at Kingaroy Hospital, was recognised for “embedding a quality-improvement culture that boosted service excellence, professional development and team connection in regional care”.<\/p>\n

Ms Scott said the awards celebrated the incredible people who made the health service what it is.<\/p>\n
