Park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>November 11, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Commemorations were held in towns and villages around the South Burnett on Tuesday to mark the 107th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice which ended World War I.<\/p>\n<p>A minute&#8217;s silence was held at 11:00am to remember the more than 60,000 Australians who lost their lives in the Great War, as well as the thousands who have died in the many conflicts &#8211; including World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq &#8211; and peace-keeping missions in which Australia has been involved since 1918.<\/p>\n<p>Wreaths were laid at monuments, flags lowered and prayers said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attorney-General and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Nanango memorial while in Kingaroy, a small service featured a speech by guest Lieutenant David Upton RAN from Borneo Barracks at Toowoomba.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lt Upton reminded the gathered crowd that Armistice Day was renamed to Remembrance Day in 1977 to widen the focus from World War I to commemorate all those who had served in any war or conflict.<\/p>\n<p>The Kingaroy commemoration also included a short march by veterans, a moving performance of &#8220;Amazing Grace&#8221; by Sue Dowideit-Reiger and the National Anthem sung by Kingaroy State High School students in English and Wakka Commemoration<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>A pair of camels were the unusual guests at Murgon&#8217;s Remembrance Day commemoration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Penny and Vernon are the mascots of 26 Transport Squadron, based at Amberley.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the squadron supported the Murgon service, and the Murgon RSL Citizen&#8217;s Auxiliary supported the camels by providing them with
