People are being urged not to eat various packaged alfalfa sprouts sold in Woolworths, IGA, Coles and some independent grocers due to potential salmonella contamination.<\/p>\n

The products, produced by Parilla Fresh, subject to the national recall are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Aussie Sprouts Alfalfa Sprouts<\/li>\n
  • Hugo’s Alfalfa Onion & Garlic Sprouts<\/li>\n
  • Hugo’s Alfalfa Radish Sprouts<\/li>\n
  • Hugo’s Alfalfa & Onion Sprouts<\/li>\n
  • Hugo’s Salad Sprouts<\/li>\n
  • Hugo’s Alfalfa & Broccoli Sprouts<\/li>\n
  • Hugo’s Trio Sprouts Selection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The recall follows a joint investigation by health and food authorities into an increase in an unusual type of Salmonella infection.<\/p>\n

    The company has voluntarily recalled the product while the investigation continues and further testing of the product is undertaken.<\/p>\n

    These products were all sold in 125g varieties with use-by dates up to and including November 20, 2025.<\/p>\n

    A spokesperson said anyone with these products in their home should throw them out.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \u201cSalmonella infection can present as gastroenteritis,\u201d Queensland\u2019s Chief Health Officer Dr Catherine McDougall said.<\/p>\n

    \u201cMost people recover with rest and fluids. Sometimes admission to hospital is required in severe cases.<\/p>\n

    \u201cIf you have symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting that don\u2019t settle, are very unwell or concerned, please see your doctor.\u201d<\/p>\n

    So far at least 44 people nationwide have been identified with the unusual strain of Salmonella, including 15 people in Queensland.<\/p>\n

    Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include\u00a0headache, fever, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Symptoms usually start six to 72 hours after exposure to the bacteria and usually last for four to seven days, however symptoms can sometimes last a lot longer.<\/p>\n

    People should contact their doctor if the symptoms last longer than a few days, the diarrhoea is severe or bloody or if at risk(young children, older people and people with poor immune systems).<\/p>\n

    Queenslanders can also call 13 HEALTH (13-43-25-84) for health advice from registered nurses, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
