Students at St John\u2019s Lutheran School have supported a call from the Salvation Army for donations to their local Winter Appeal.<\/p>\n

Major Allan Kerr visited the school this week to pick up boxes of canned and dry goods donated by the school\u2019s families.<\/p>\n

He said many people in the South Burnett are finding this month’s very cold weather difficult, and the Salvos have been overwhelmed by calls for help.<\/p>\n

St John\u2019s school community supported the Salvos request by donating various grocery items including tinned soups, tinned vegies, other tinned goods, pasta, and long life milk.<\/p>\n

Students collected the goods from classrooms and packed them up for Major Kerr.<\/p>\n

He said he was “extremely happy” with the amount of goods donated as the need is so great at present, and thanked the students and their parents for their generous help.<\/p>\n

St John\u2019s students have been exploring the theme “Mission Possible: Care, Share, Repair” in their weekly school devotions.<\/p>\n

Mr Jon Kotzur, the school\u2019s Chaplain, said the children were given a “mission” to collect as many cans as possible.<\/p>\n

“Children and their families have responded to this challenge by collecting goods for the Salvos and filling a need in our local community,” he said.<\/p>\n

“It’s a practical way of showing they care and are sharing with others.”<\/p>\n
